An American naval air force franchise about the US Navy's Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program for select naval aviators and flight officers, which TOPGUN is the popular name for. Typically refers to the original 1986 film starring Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards and Meg Ryan in her film debut. A sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, was released in 2022.
Also the name inspiration for the race horse Mayano Top Gun, who is also personified in Umamusume. The same character was also involved in an official collaboration with the sequel (Danbooru post #5348482) as a special advertising pilot.
