pumpkin dance (meme)

パンプキンダンス やっちゃいなよ!そんな偽物なんか! 連邦に反省を促すダンス

A 2006 viral video originally recorded for the American TV station KXVO in Omaha, Nebraska. The footage shows then-KXVO news anchorman Matt Geiler in a pumpkin mask and full black bodysuit, dancing to Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters". It circulated the Internet for years in various forms, typically in association to other songs (notably "Spooky Scary Skeletons") or memes. Geiler later auditioned in the 2017 season of America's Got Talent in his infamous get-up, but only got as far as that season's Judge Cuts.

The video suddenly gained a new level of interest in 2021, when Japanese artist Siratori made a video edit which set the footage to "Senkou", the ending song from the first Gundam Hathaway's Flash film. It was made as a reference to a character from the film known as Mafti Nabiyu Erin, an anti-Federation terrorist who wears a pumpkin-shaped helmet to disguise his true identity; this led to it being nicknamed "the dance that will urge the Federation to reflect" (連邦に反省を促すダンス renpou ni hansei wo unagasu dance).
