bascinet

A type of helmet worn during the 14th and early 15th Centuries, characterized by a relatively high, pointed skull and extending downwards at the rear and sides to afford protection for the neck. Often worn with an aventail and detachable visors like the hounskull. Not to be confused with a bassinet.
